Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: The operator has an all-risk policy covering the user's liability for third-party liability, damage and total loss, and total or partial theft. The outboard engine and dinghy must be hoisted aboard every evening.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. Estimated from engine power: this boat's ~114 HP engines burn roughly 9.1 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 191 L ≈ €372 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in France?
Not if you add a skipper — this boat offers one, who holds the licence. Generally, though: No formal licence is legally required to skipper a bareboat sailing yacht, though charter companies expect a sailing résumé and usually an ICC or equivalent.
Where am I allowed to sail?
The contract sets a sailing area of roughly 14° to 18° South and 143° to 153° West, while the insurance covers 145° to 153° West. If you want to go beyond it, you need our written permission and you pay the extra insurance premium, otherwise the boat is not insured.
What if bad weather delays my return?
Bad weather is not accepted as a reason for returning late, so please plan your route with a safety margin. If true force majeure stops you getting back on time, contact us straight away and we will agree the return arrangements together.
What happens if I return late?
For each day of delay you pay compensation equal to double the daily price of a weekly rental, plus any costs we incur, such as the next guests' accommodation. Returning the boat to a different port means paying repatriation costs, with a minimum charge of EUR 804.
What should I do if something breaks during my charter?
Contact us before arranging any repair. We reimburse the costs you incur when you present a detailed invoice in our name showing VAT. For a small repair that doesn't stop the boat, you need to come back at least 12 hours early, otherwise it counts as a late return.
Do you check my crew's sailing experience?
Yes. We can refuse to hand over the boat if the skipper or crew don't seem competent enough, even if their licences and references are in order. In that case the contract is cancelled and everything you paid is returned. Also make sure someone aboard holds the valid VHF diploma.
