Perfectly suited for sailing the more remote regions of Polynesia, the Excess 14 is equipped for autonomy and adventure, with solar panels, a watermaker and a dinghy with a 20 HP outboard engine. A true sailing boat, it offers real pleasure under sail, making passages between the islands enjoyable and comfortable for everyone on board. The cockpit features a large dining table that comfortably seats eight guests, and the saloon and cockpit both offer inviting relaxation areas. Bedding and towels are provided. Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: The Boat Owner insures the boat against accidental damage, including damage to third parties. The insurance excludes theft or loss of personal effects and accidents to people on board.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. Estimated from engine power: this boat's ~114 HP engines burn roughly 9.1 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 191 L ≈ €372 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in France?
Not personally — this boat requires a skipper, who holds the licence. Generally, though: No formal licence is legally required to skipper a bareboat sailing yacht, though charter companies expect a sailing résumé and usually an ICC or equivalent.
Can I sail at night?
Not without our prior authorisation for a specific route on a specific date. Sailing in the lagoons is only allowed between 8am and 4pm.
What happens if the weather turns bad?
You must not leave port or anchorage if the wind is above force 6 on the Beaufort scale or forecast to be, or if the port authorities have banned sailing. You must also follow any routing instructions we send, especially in bad weather.
What sailing experience does my crew need?
Whoever skippers must have a current skipper's certificate (BC200 or similar) and a sailing CV. If you don't have one, you'll need to hire a professional skipper yourself. We may also check your crew's manoeuvring and sailing skills, even by sailing with you.
What should I do if something breaks or I have an accident?
Contact us first and get our agreement before any repair, and keep all invoices so you can be reimbursed at the end of the charter. Try to avoid being towed, and if it can't be avoided, agree the price with the other captain beforehand. After an accident involving another boat, call us immediately.
Are there limits on how I can use the boat?
The boat is for pleasure sailing only, so no commercial use, professional fishing, transport or towing. Regattas need our prior approval and may add costs. We must also approve your itinerary before departure, and you'll need to keep us updated on your position when it changes.
