Frequently Asked Questions
Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: The boat is delivered with comprehensive (kasko) insurance valid in the Mediterranean, up to total loss. Its deductible is covered by the security deposit or by the non-refundable deposit option taken by the charterer.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. Estimated from engine power: this boat's ~54 HP engines burn roughly 4.3 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 90 L ≈ €176 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Italy?
The skipper needs a valid sailing licence and VHF certificate, ideally issued by their country of residence (an ICC is widely accepted).
Can I bring my dog or other pets on board?
No, we don't allow any animals on board.
Are there limits on how I can use the boat?
The boat is for you and the crew on your crew list only. You can't sub-charter it, carry paying passengers or cargo, enter regattas, or tow other boats except in a real emergency.
What happens if the weather turns bad?
You must follow port authority bans and must not sail in seas above force six or when forecasts predict dangerous conditions. If you sail anyway, you take on responsibility for any damage to the boat, so plan your route to get back on time and head in early if the forecast is poor.
Where am I allowed to sail?
Our recommended sailing area is Sicily and the South Tyrrhenian Sea, and our charts cover only this area. You can sail elsewhere within your licence, but you need to get your own charts, and our breakdown guarantee doesn't apply outside the recommended area.
What should I do if something breaks during my charter?
Tell us immediately and don't carry out any repairs without our authorisation. If a major system such as the engine, rigging or sails fails through no fault of yours and the boat is unusable for over 12 hours (not counting the first night), we let you make up the lost time or give you a credit note, but there are no cash refunds.
