Frequently Asked Questions
Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: The boat is delivered insured with (a) a kasko (fully comprehensive) policy for the Mediterranean, up to total loss, with an allowance covered by the Charterer's security deposit, and (b) the legally required third-party liability policy for accidental damage to third parties…
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. Estimated from engine power: this boat's ~114 HP engines burn roughly 9.1 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 191 L ≈ €372 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Italy?
Not personally — this boat requires a skipper, who holds the licence. Generally, though: The skipper needs a valid sailing licence and VHF certificate, ideally issued by their country of residence (an ICC is widely accepted).
Can I bring my dog or other pet on board?
No, animals are not allowed on board during the charter.
Are there limits on how I can use the boat?
Yes. The boat is for pleasure use by you and your crew only, so carrying paying passengers or goods and any commercial activity are not allowed. Regattas and nautical events are also off limits, and towing is allowed only in a real emergency.
What happens if the weather turns bad?
Please follow Port Authority orders and don't sail when seas are above force six or when forecasts warn of dangerous conditions. If you ignore this, you take on responsibility for any damage to the boat. Plan your route so you can return on time, bringing your return forward if bad weather is forecast.
What should I do if something breaks during my charter?
Tell us immediately and don't start repairs without our authorisation. Assistance can be requested between 08:00 and 20:00. If a major system such as the engine, rigging or sails fails through no fault of yours for more than 12 hours, you can recover the lost time later or take a credit note, but not a cash refund.
What happens if I return late?
A late return means paying an amount equal to the boat's weekly hire plus any costs it causes, such as accommodation for the next guests. Returning to a different port than agreed also counts as late, and you would cover the cost of moving the boat.
When is the best time to sail in Italy?
May–October, warm and settled in summer; July–August are hottest and busiest, with afternoon thermal breezes common.
