Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: The boat is delivered insured with (a) a comprehensive policy for the Mediterranean up to total loss, with a deductible covered by the lessee's deposit, and (b) the mandatory third-party liability policy for damage involuntarily caused to third parties by navigation or by the…
Do I need a sailing licence in Italy?
Not if you add a skipper — this boat offers one, who holds the licence. Generally, though: The skipper needs a valid sailing licence and VHF certificate, ideally issued by their country of residence (an ICC is widely accepted).
Can I bring my dog or other pets on board?
Unfortunately not. Our terms don't allow any animals to be kept on board during the charter.
Are there limits on how I can use the boat?
The boat is for pleasure use by you and your crew only, so carrying paying passengers or goods, or any commercial activity, isn't allowed. You also can't enter regattas or nautical events, and towing is only permitted in an absolute emergency.
What happens if the weather turns bad?
You must follow any port authority bans and never sail in seas above force six or when dangerous weather is forecast. Plan your route so you can return on time, and head back early if the forecast turns bad.
What should I do if something breaks during my charter?
Tell us right away and don't arrange repairs without our authorisation. Repair and assistance requests can only be made between 08:00 and 20:00, and you should report any claim to us on the day you return the boat.
What happens if I return the boat late?
Late return is taken seriously, even if caused by bad weather. You would owe a sum equal to the weekly rental price for that period plus any costs the delay causes the next crew. Returning to a different port than agreed also counts as late.
When is the best time to sail in Italy?
May–October, warm and settled in summer; July–August are hottest and busiest, with afternoon thermal breezes common.
