Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. You can lower the deposit by adding the operator’s damage waiver. Operator terms: The Shipowner insures the Vessel under Greek law against fire, marine, collision and third-party liability. The insurance does not cover pre-existing damage, blocked toilets, loss or damage to the dinghy or outboard, or equipment inadvertently left ashore.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Not if you add a skipper — this boat offers one, who holds the licence. Generally, though: Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
Are there limits on how I can use the boat?
The boat is for private leisure use only by you and your party. Racing, towing (except in an emergency), subletting and carrying more people than the vessel's licence allows are not permitted. You also can't sail after sunset or in uncharted waters.
What happens if the weather turns bad?
You may not leave port if winds exceed Force 6 Beaufort (above 24 knots), and you should reef early and sail with sound seamanship. Please keep in mind that we give no guarantee of comfort or navigability in adverse weather.
Where am I allowed to sail?
You can sail within Greek waters unless we agree otherwise in writing. Plan to reach your turnaround point within the first third of the charter and stay within 40 nautical miles of the disembarkation port for the last two days. You also need to be berthed at the base port by 5:00 pm on the penultimate day.
What sailing experience does my crew need?
A bareboat party needs at least one qualified skipper and one competent crew member. We may ask for a short practical demonstration of your seamanship before departure, and that time counts as part of your charter. If it isn't satisfactory, we can appoint a skipper at your expense.
What should I do if something breaks during my charter?
Tell us right away and don't arrange or carry out repairs without our approval. If a machinery breakdown that isn't your fault stops you using the boat for more than 24 hours in the Saronic Gulf (48 in the Cyclades or Eastern Peloponnese), you can claim a pro-rata refund or extension.
