Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: Insurance of the vessel and crew is included in the charter fee.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Not personally — a skipper is included with this boat and holds the licence. Generally, though: Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
What happens if bad weather affects our itinerary?
Itineraries are suggestions only and depend on weather, sea conditions and the captain's approval. The captain will make every reasonable effort to keep the planned embarkation and disembarkation ports, but if weather gets in the way, the owner, broker and operator can't be held liable for the changes.
Who decides where we sail?
You can propose your ideal route, but the captain gives final approval at the time of the charter. This keeps your trip safe and suited to the conditions on the day.
What is the APA and do I get any unused money back?
The APA is an advance payment, typically 20% to 40% of the charter fee depending on the yacht. It covers the running costs of your cruise such as supplies, port and mooring fees, communications, crew gratuities and extras.
What's included in the charter fee, and what do I pay on top?
The fee covers the yacht with its equipment, cleaning and basic consumables, laundry of ship's linen, and the crew's wages, uniform and food, plus insurance of the vessel and crew.
Is VAT included in the price?
VAT is charged on top of the charter fee and depends on where you charter. It is 5.2% to 13% in Greece depending on the yacht category, 13% in Croatia, 22% in Italy, 20% in France and 14% in the Red Sea. If the rate changes before your charter starts, you pay or are credited the difference.
