Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: The operator delivers the boat insured with third-party liability (R.C.) and hull (total and partial loss) policies. The insurance does not cover loss of or damage to the charterer's and passengers' belongings, liability for third parties' property, or liability toward…
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. Estimated from engine power: this boat's ~80 HP engine burns roughly 6.4 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 134 L ≈ €261 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Italy?
Not personally — this boat requires a skipper, who holds the licence. Generally, though: The skipper needs a valid sailing licence and VHF certificate, ideally issued by their country of residence (an ICC is widely accepted).
Can I bring my dog or other pet on board?
No. Our terms do not allow any animals on board.
Are there limits on how I can use the boat?
Yes. The boat is for leisure use only, so no carrying goods or paying passengers, no commercial activity and no sailing lessons. Racing needs our written consent, towing is only allowed in a real emergency, and weapons and drugs are not allowed on board.
What happens if the weather turns bad?
If wind and sea are forecast to exceed, or already exceed, Beaufort force 5, you must stay in port or head straight to the nearest safe port or anchorage. Plan your route so you can return on time, and shorten it if the forecast worsens. We are not responsible for delays or interrupted cruises caused by weather or port authority orders.
Where am I allowed to sail?
You must stay within the area defined in your contract and must not leave Italian territorial waters without our authorisation. Stay out of war zones and areas where navigation is banned, since insurance does not apply there.
What if you doubt our skipper's experience?
We may check the skipper's qualification, and if we judge the experience insufficient for the boat or for safety, we can require one of our trusted skippers on board at your expense. If you refuse, the contract ends automatically and we may keep the payments received.
About Porto di Castellammare del Golfo
Tucked into the northwest corner of Sicily, this marina doubles as a working fishing port, so you'll find yourself surrounded by local boats, fresh catch, and the kind of unglamorous authenticity that's hard to find. Read more →
