Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: The Shipowner insures the vessel under Greek law against fire, marine, collision and third-party liability. The Charterer is advised to arrange independent personal, medical and travel insurance.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Not if you add a skipper — this boat offers one, who holds the licence. Generally, though: Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
Where am I allowed to sail?
You can cruise within Greek waters unless we agree otherwise in writing. Plan your route to reach the turnaround point within the first third of your charter, and stay within 40 nautical miles of the return port for the last two days. You must be berthed at the base by 5:00 pm on the second-to-last day.
Can I sail at night or use the boat for racing or towing?
No sailing after sunset or in uncharted waters. The boat is for private leisure only, so racing, subletting and towing (except in an emergency) are not allowed. Please also stay within the passenger number the boat's licence permits.
What happens if the weather turns bad?
You shouldn't leave port if winds exceed Force 6 Beaufort (above 24 knots), and you should reef early and sail carefully. The boat is a recreational craft, so we can't promise comfort or navigability in adverse weather.
What sailing experience does my crew need?
Your party needs at least one qualified skipper and one competent crew member. We may ask for a short practical demonstration of seamanship before you leave, and that time counts as part of your charter. If it isn't satisfactory, we may appoint a skipper at your expense or end the agreement.
What should I do if something breaks during my charter?
Tell us right away and don't arrange repairs without our approval. If a machinery breakdown that isn't your fault stops you using the boat for more than 24 hours in the Saronic Gulf or 48 hours in the Cyclades/Eastern Peloponnese, you can claim a pro-rata refund or an extension.
