Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: The owner states it holds an insurance policy covering the renter for hull, accessory and outboard damage, theft of accessories, tenders and engine, third-party liability (material and bodily injury) and breakdowns. The premium is included in the rental price.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. Estimated from engine power: this boat's ~90 HP engines burn roughly 7.2 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 151 L ≈ €294 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in France?
Not if you add a skipper — this boat offers one, who holds the licence. Generally, though: No formal licence is legally required to skipper a bareboat sailing yacht, though charter companies expect a sailing résumé and usually an ICC or equivalent.
Can I sail at night?
Night sailing is only allowed with our written authorisation in advance, so please ask us before you plan any night passages.
Can I use the boat for fishing, racing or paid trips?
No. The boat is for pleasure cruising only, so commercial use, professional fishing, passenger or cargo transport and regattas are not allowed. Subletting or lending the boat to someone else is also forbidden.
What happens if bad weather delays my return?
Bad weather is not accepted as an excuse for returning late, and each day of delay is charged at double the daily rate. Plan ahead and make sure you are no more than 40 nautical miles from the return port 2 days before the end of your charter. We may also refuse to hand over the boat if the weather is judged unsafe.
What should I do if something breaks or there's an accident?
Don't abandon the boat and don't repair anything yourself without our agreement. Contact us and the authorities straight away, and get a written report of what happened. For serious damage such as dismasting, flooding or fire, ask us for instructions and have an official report drawn up.
Do you check my crew's sailing experience?
Yes. This is a bareboat charter, so your skipper must have the knowledge to run the catamaran and do the planned trip. We may refuse to hand over the boat if the skipper or crew seem insufficiently competent, whatever certificates they show, or if the skipper is unfit to sail, for example under the influence of alcohol.
When is the best time to sail in France?
April–October on the Riviera and Corsica; warm summers with the gusty Mistral funnelling down the Gulf of Lion in spring and autumn.
